Polymer improvement to avoid fouling by blood stains in the food sector

Petition / Problem

The current material, in contact with fish blood, becomes irreversibly dirty.

Objective

Study the reason why fouling occurs and propose an improvement to avoid irreversible fouling from happening.

ATRIA solution

During the project several real pieces were characterized, where the fouling had occurred. From these pieces it was possible to determine that the failure origin was in the material porosity.

The material porosity was then reduced and prototype pieces were manufactured.

In the laboratory, standardized fouling and cleaning tests were carried out, which corroborated that the material with the least porosity didn’t present irreversible fouling.
